all the food (as seen in the pictures) we ordered taste good, indeed the boss is very friendly, good eating ambience in the laochu (老屋子)
Tasty claypot Teochew porridge with plenty of flavorful side dishes! The boss is really friendly and welcoming. Cozy spot for a satisfying meal!
This quaint little place popped up when I was searching for lunch venue as this was the first time staying at Bukit Mertajam. Almost missed the shop as it was off the main road. For me, the highlight were their porridge and their braised pork plus innards. Came with braised egg and tofu. The service was excellent, the owner was very friendly; first class customer service. As I wanted black coffee, he took one sachet from his own personal stock to make the coffee as the shop did not have black coffee that day. When we were leaving, he even gave one extra sachet as "door gift". Will definitely come again to savour the other teow chew delicacies the place offer.
Excellent and homely restaurant, serving what may be described as traditional Chinese kampong style food. There's a variety of delicious main entrees and yummy sides to choose from the menu. Most of the claypot noodle sets feature sea clams (lala) and other delectable and fresh seafood ingredients. We tried 2 'lala pot' noodles, one with regular beehoon and another with maggi noodles in sour spicy soup, and both were excellent. Their signature entree which we also ordered is no doubt the Special Porridge claypot set, which is traditional 'chim moi' (蟹粥). This dish will surely be satisfying for fans of the ever popular crab porridge who are often chasing the best tasting version. For sides, do not miss out on the scrumptious Fried Guang Zhang, a lovely Teochew fried snack that is not often encountered in any restaurants anymore these days. Overall, Lao Chu Heritage Restaurant is a nice set up for anyone who enjoys traditional home cooked style fare, served in a clean and bright dining environment.
Everything was so delicious, price is also reasonable. The porridge was especially good! The boss is also friendly and kind. Highly recommended and will revisit.
The food is delicious. The boss is friendly and attentive. Highly recommended this place if you are looking for teohchew food.
This place is nostalgic for me as a Singaporean. The boss was very friendly when he found out we were Singaporeans and he gave us a free 鱼鳞并. Ordered the seafood porridge. The broth was delicious and I kept wanting to eat it even though I was full.
Really enjoyed the food here! The boss was super friendly, and the service was spot on. When the chendol came with less gula melaka than we preferred, the staff happily added it when we requested for more. I don’t usually like porridge, but theirs was surprisingly tasty. Loved the deep-fried tofu with scallion oil too!
